Interesting Facts

Lake Washington is the second largest natural lake in Washington State, USA, after Lake Chelan, and the largest lake in King County. It is situated between Seattle to the west, Bellevue to the east, Renton to the south, and Kenotre to the north, and surrounds Mercer Island. It is fed by the Sammamish River at its north end and the Cedar River at its south, as well as a number of creeks, including Ravenna Creek/University Slough and Thornton Creek on the west and Kelsey Creek, Juanita Creek, and Coal Creek on the east.

In 1991 UAS completed the first comprehensive survey of the lake bottom. UAS used side-scanning sonar to locate at least seven military aircraft including a huge martin Mariner PMB flying boat, more than one hundred sunken boats and ships, a train, several sunken forests, the pontoons of the old I-90 bridge.

This is a dive underneath the I-90 floating bridge on the sunken bridge deck. Starting at about 45 ft is the begining of the bridge deck and you will see some steel girders. Follow the debris to a depth of about 60 ft and you will find the beginning of the bridge deck. The bridge deck is a steel grate covered with concrete barrior sides. You will see some construction debris all around the bridge indicating that it sunk premature. Bridge depth is to about 80 ft. Your compass wont work at the bridge site, so you'll need to rely on your depth gauge and know where you are at all times.
